Are You Losing Customers Because of Keyword Mistakes??

This blog post is just a quick reminder that it’s so important to understand the language our customers are using so that we can help them find us better on Google.

For instance, many maternity photographers describe their work on their website as “maternity portraits” or “maternity portrait sessions.”

However, when we do keyword research, we find that that’s typically not the phrase most people are typing into the Google search bar to find a maternity photographer near them.

Let’s take a look at some keywords and see what type of search volume each phrase is getting in the United States each month. You can see the search volume for each term next to the big red dot in the images.

For instance, let’s compare the search terms “maternity portrait session,” “maternity photoshoot,” and “pregnancy photoshoot.”

When I do keyword research for “maternity portrait session” I see that the monthly search volume (the number of people who are going into Google and typing that phrase into the Google search bar) is only 10. Almost not even worth bothering with. Yet that’s what most photographers are calling their maternity photoshoots on their website, and they’re missing out on so much search traffic!
